Relation to the Canal Market Mural:

In 2016, the Canal Market District was built along the former site of the Ohio Canal through a collaborative effort by local community leader J. Gilbert “Gib” Reese and the Thomas J. Evans Foundation. The goal of this project was to create a public space where local farmers could connect to the people of Newark and the entirety of Licking County, as well as establish a community hub for a variety of other local events. Today, the Canal Market holds a craft market and a twice-weekly farmer’s market beginning in May through October.

Without the development and completion of this project The Canal Market Mural would not exist as it decorates the entrance to this community space.
